Some first look photos have fallen out of the Netflix feature adaptation Mr. Harrigan’s phonebased on Stephen King’s story from his anthology If it bleeds. The film was directed and adapted for the screen by John Lee Hancockwhich he previously adapted and directed The blind sideit’s direct Save Mr. Banks. The film is the protagonist Jaeden Martell (San Vincenzo, It, Knives out) like Craig, e Donald Sutherland (Burst, A time to kill, The hunger games) in the role of Mr. Harrigan.
Here is the synopsis:
“When Craig, a boy who lives in a small town (Jaeden Martell), befriends Mr. Harrigan, an older and lonely billionaire (Donald Sutherland), the two begin to form an unlikely bond over their love of books and reading. But when Mr. Harrigan sadly dies, Craig discovers that not everything is dead and gone and strangely he finds himself able to communicate with his friend from the grave through the iPhone in this supernatural coming-of-age story that shows some connections they are never lost “.
Hancock spoke to Netflix about the experience of making the film, saying:
“Because it’s a short story and it’s only 80 pages long, [you have] to enter and thematically grasp what I think he is trying to say and activate part of it in scenes that are not necessarily all in the novel. You finish a script and you realize you have to send it to Stephen, and you get a thumbs up or a thumbs down … You say, ‘Oh, my God, Stephen King is reading my script. I hope he likes it. ‘”
He talked about the tone of the story, comparing it to King’s other heartfelt works, versus his horror stories:
“More than anything else, it’s a strange relationship between an 80-year-old billionaire and a [young man] and bonds of friendship, and how far will you go for a friend? “Hancock confessed.” Do you like Redemption of Shawshankdo you like it Stand by Medo you like it Green mile, do you like a lot of other Stephen Kings? … My opinion was, it’s Brothers Grimm fashion. In a way it’s a cautionary tale. “
Mr. Harrigan’s phone arrives on Netflix on October 5th. Check out the photos below and let us know if you can’t wait to watch them.
