Director William Friedkin (The French Connection, The Exorcist, To Live and Die in Los Angeles) got attached to a new project to direct The court martial of the Caine mutiny. It is also chosen Keifer Sutherland in the lead role.

Sutherland will play Lieutenant Commander Queeg The court martial of the Caine mutinywhich centers on a naval officer who “is being tried for mutiny for taking command from a ship captain he believes is acting unstable, endangering both the ship and its crew.”

The film will go into production with a 50-year script written by Herman Wouk from his Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name. Fredkin said in a statement: “I’ve looked at a lot of scripts over the past 10 years and haven’t seen anything I really wanted to do. But I think about it a lot and it occurred to me that it could be a very current and important piece, as well as a great drama. The court martial of the Caine mutiny it is one of the best court martial plays ever written ”.

Friedkin went on to share what changed with that script, saying, “The original piece was written for World War II and Wouk included all the pent-up anger in this country for Pearl Harbor. I updated it to no longer be Pearl Harbor. I made it contemporary, involving the Gulf of Hormuz and the Strait of Hormuz, up to Iran “.

The director added: “There has never been a mutiny in the United States Navy. Herman Wouk virtually created the first and only mutiny in the United States Army. His dialogue is fantastic, straight to the point. It’s set in a trial, but it’s all textbook, in terms of accuracy. But there has never been a mutiny in the US military. He invented it and everything that would happen around it, according to the laws that govern it “.

Speaking of Sutherland’s cast on the project, he said, “I think he’s one of the best actors in America, one of the best. I’ve seen every episode of his show 24. I thought he was just amazing, but he could do a lot more, and that gives him the opportunity to stretch. “

This is not the first time this story has been adapted into a movie. There was a 1954 movie that was acting Humphrey Bogart like Queeg. Then, in 1988, there was a telepic directed by Robert Altman.
