Matt Kindt’s new SPY SUPERB comic features the unsuspecting main character

Bestselling cartoonist Kind Matt and colorist Kind Sharlene they are working on a new comic, Superb spy. The story revolves around Jay, a useful idiot for a secret organization who sends him on a mission without him even noticing. But when Jay answers the wrong phone with the wrong secret information, Russian strike teams and elite assassins hunt him down. This leads Jay to believe that he was a sleeper agent and that he is indeed the “superb spy”. Complete ignorance of him may be the only thing keeping him alive through this story. Gentile says:

In Spy Superb I wanted to explore a character, the idea of a very normal person who believes he is absolutely exceptional … … There is a scientific term for this – the Dunning-Kruger effect – a person who insists on that they possess knowledge and skills that they obviously do not have. What if a super spy suffers? Well … they would obviously be a … SUPERB SPY. It was actually really hard for me to keep this character alive after # 1 … there are hit men after him … a super killer who only kills with rock, paper and scissors … and a real super spy who works in the shadow of our “hero” who may actually be the real superb spy. It’s really cool to draw a new book and I’m so happy that Sharlene Kindt (Department H) is painting it. It is certainly the most ambitious collaboration we have ever had.

Sounds a bit like a Mr. Bean type situation. Superb spy will be released next January with Dark Horse Comics.
