It’s been 13 years since the last Friday 13 the movie is out, and you know what? As much as I love the original in the beginning Friday 13 movie, this is a horror franchise that I don’t miss. I’d be fine if I never saw another new one Friday 13 movie made again. If I have the desire to watch a crazy killer brutally kill people, I can always revisit those early classics. There’s really nothing new Hollywood would do with the franchise. They keep making these movies, and it’s more and more the same.
It looks like we could get pretty much the same next year. In recent years, the creator of Friday 13, Sean Cunningham, And Victor Millerthe author of the original film, fought for the rights of the franchise and who is in control of what.
In 2018, a judge ruled that Victor Miller owns the rights to the original Friday 13 screenplay in the United States. Cunningham failed to overturn the sentence. However, Cunningham owns the adult Jason Voorhees character, introduced in later sequels. The other main elements of the franchise will have to be divided between the two parties for any future projects. It all looks like a mess.
Something could happen soon, though, with the franchise as Sean Cunningham recently updated his Cameo bio to indicate that the franchise will be back to life soon. He says:
“Sean S. Cunningham directed and produced the landmark horror film Friday the 13th, creating the iconic villain Jason Voorhees. The film generated 12 episodes with a thirteenth scheduled for next year “.
If this is the case, Cunningham and Miller appear to have reached an agreement. Or, Cunningham is developing a Friday his own project. There are no details to share aside from this!
Obviously, I have no interest in seeing new movies in the horror franchise, but what about you? You want to see something new Friday 13 movie?
