In honor of the genre to which it belongs, ‘Daggers in the back: The mystery of Glass Onion’ has not yet wanted to reveal much about what we will find inside. However, we are gradually learning more about the long-awaited sequel to Rian Johnson’s blockbuster, which once again has a stellar cast and arrives on Netflix in December. From Empire magazine we get new pics from the film, along with the first details on its characters, a gang of eccentrics who promise to give the Thrombey family quite a bit of competition.
Daniel Craig returns as detective Benoit Blanc, the link between the two films who, following in the footsteps of Sherlock Holmes or Hercule Poirot, tackles a new mystery starring a completely new cast of characters. A first-rate cast that gives life a group of old acquaintances who are reunited in Greece by a rich friend to participate in a mysterious game that becomes all too real.
Oscar nominee Leslie Odom Jr (“Hamilton”) plays Lionel Toussainta scientist who works for Bron miles, a technological “pooper” played by Edward Norton (“Fight Club”). They are accompanied by Kate Hudson (“Almost Famous”) in the role of the fashionista birdie-jay and Kathryn Hahn (“Scarlet Witch and Vision”) as claire debellaa Connecticut governor running for the Senate.
On the other side we have Dave Bautista (“Guardians of the Galaxy”), who plays a YouTube star named Duke Codywho travels to Greece with his youngest girlfriend and channel administrator, whiskey, played by Madelyn Cline (“Identity Erased”). In the cast we will also find Jessica Henwick (‘Matrix Resurrections’) as PegBirdie’s assistant, and Janelle Monáe (“Homecoming”), who plays the tech entrepreneur Brand Cassandra ‘Andi’which we see discussing with Hahn’s character in one of the images.
Of course, little is known about the mystery that will make up the plot, but thanks to these descriptions we already know that the new and diverse cast of characters will also have ties and pasts in common that will cause conflicts between them. Due to the connection with the tech industry of many of its characters, we can imagine where the shooting will go. As happened in the first episode, “The Mystery of the Glass Onion” will hide a social criticism under its mysterious plot, and in this case, as Johnson reveals to Empire, the economic question will be important. “The film isn’t entirely about the pay gap, but that’s definitely an important part of the story.”says the manager. “We live in a time in history where inequality is increasingly obscene. It is like a circus that we cannot look away from even if the negative effects become more and more real in our lives”.
From James Bond to Benoit Blanc
As we said, at the center of the film we will find Benoit Blanc, the eccentric detective played by Daniel Craig, who tries to find out once again who the killer is. As he also told Empire, Craig, the challenge of repeating the success of the first ‘Daggers in the back did not irritate him in the least, and he owes everything to the 007 saga.
“How the hell do we take something that has captured people’s imaginations and made them talk about murder mysteries and do it again without it becoming a pastiche of itself?”Craig wonders. “I’ve spent the last 15 years of my life trying to do it in a franchise, so it’s not scary. If you have the right people and the talent, then you can do it. Rian is a screenwriting genius and doesn’t want to repeat himself. And we don’t want to disappoint people. We want the public to enjoy the world we created in the first one and believe in it. “.
