The premiere of ‘Don’t worry, dear’, the new behind the scenes of Olivia Wilde, is getting closer and closer and in Spain we just have to wait until September 23rd. The director started the promotion and in an interview with Variety she talked about the cast and some changes she had to make for the safety of the shoot. The film stars Florence Pugh and Harry Styles, but the latter was not the first chosen to play the mysterious Jack. In 2020, when production began, it was Shia LaBeouf who took on the role, worse he ended up fired and replaced by Styles: “I say this as someone who is a huge fan of your work”Wilde shades, “His trial was not conducive to the conduct I demand in my productions. It has a process that, in a way, seems to require a fighting energy and, personally, I don’t think it favors the best performance. I believe that creating a safe and trusting environment is the best way to get people to do their jobs better. Ultimately, my responsibility is to the production and the cast, to protect them. That was my job. “

LaBeouf is known for hiring ‘the method’, a very demanding working technique for actors based on the Stanislavskij system that leads them to internalize the characters and not to let them go even when the cameras are off. Regardless, in the same interview she also had some kind words for the actor: “After that, a lot of things emerged that really worried me about his behavior. I really wish you health and evolution, because I believe in restorative justice. But for our film, what we really needed was an energy that was incredibly supportive. Especially with a film like this, I knew I would ask Florence [Pugh] that she was in very vulnerable situations and my priority was to make her feel safe and supported.
We assume that what Wilde is referring to are the allegations of abuse and mistreatment that his ex-girlfriend, FKA Twigs, has made to him. LaBeouf responded with a statement to the New York Times in which he tried to rationalize his violent behavior and apologized.
‘Don’t worry dear’ tells the story of Alice and Jack, a young married couple who move to Victory, the experimental city of a company where the men who work there and their families can live. Life there is perfect and all their needs are covered, but when cracks and doubts begin to appear in this idyllic life, fragments are discovered that something sinister is hiding behind that flawless facade. Alice can’t help but start wondering what they do at Victory and why. The cast is completed by Chris Pine, Wilde herself, Gemma Chan, KiKi Layne and Nick Kroll. The screenplay is written by Katie Silberman, based on a story by herself, Carey van Dyke and Shane Van Dyke.
The envelope deal
On April 26 and on the CinemaCon stage where he had gone to present the film, someone handed Wilde an envelope which, once opened, changed his face. It turned out to be a child custody lawsuit he shares with actor Jason Sudeikis (“Ted Lasso”), from whom he split in 2020 after nine years of relationship. In an interview with Variety, the director talked about the incident, which she believes her ex was not as innocent as she implied: “It was my workplace”, remembers Wilde, “In any other workplace it would have been considered an attack. It was really annoying. It shouldn’t have happened. There has been a huge security breach, which is really scary. The obstacles she had to overcome to enter that room with various IDs, plus the special COVID tests that had to be done days in advance, which provided her with the bracelet she needed to attend the event – it was something that required foresight. . “
Her children are very young, but they discover or will discover things, and for Wilde that meant causing them unnecessary suffering: “The only people who suffered were my children, because they will have to see it and they should never know it happened. For me it was horrible, but the victims were 8 and 5 years old, and it’s very sad. Actress, I walked in. voluntarily in the spotlight, but it’s not something my kids have asked for. And when my kids get pulled in, it’s deeply painful. “he told Variety. Of course, when it happened, Wilde didn’t let that distract her from her big moment and she continued with the introduction: “Trying to sabotage was really ruthless. But I had a job to do; I don’t get distracted easily. But, you know, unfortunately, it wasn’t something that surprised me at all. I mean, there’s a reason I left that relationship. “
