Now, more than ever in film history, there are so many adaptations from other media that it’s hard to keep track of which stories are original or not. That’s why Hollywood decided to bring literary sagas to the big screen, which failed and remained only in one movie.

the dark tower

Also bearing the name of Stephen King, and one of his most acclaimed works, ‘the dark tower’, a fictional movie which would have covered the 8-book saga, remained with a single episode, starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey. But Nikolai Arcel’s classification and direction made him fail in his first. Available on Amazon Prime Video.

John Carter

An adaptation of the 11-book saga written by Edgar Rice Burroughs has been in the works since the 1930s. It wasn’t until director Andrew Staton, along with Disney, brought it to the big screen ‘John Carter’, it would be the beginning of a trilogyand which broke records as the ninth most expensive production in history at the time, which also made it a big flop for the studio.

Ink heart

When Brendan Fraser was a sure box office success, after films like ‘The Mummy’ or ‘Journey to the Center of the Earth’, they wanted to adapt ‘Ink Heart’, which was based on the first book of ‘Ink’ World Trilogy, written by Cornelia Funke. However, the first was so bad that it didn’t even manage to increase the initial budget. Available on HBO Max.

Ender’s game

As with “John Carter”, there have been many times they have tried to adapt the work of Orson Scott Card, who has always rejected the idea. But it was in 2011 that Summit bought the rights to “Ender’s Game” and they named Harrison Ford, Asa Butterfield, Ben Kingsley, Viola Davis, among others. Finally, the poor reception meant that this 20-book saga was never talked about again. Available on HBO Max.

Beautiful creatures

With the successes of the youth sagas assured like “Twilight” or “The Hunger Games”, Hollywood was looking for the adaptation that could make it more successful. That’s how they invented ‘Beautiful creatures’, an adaptation of the tetralogy of Kami García and Margaret Stohl, which grossed just $ 60 million at the box office, attracting neither old nor new fans. The six signs of light

And finally, one of those sagas that promised to be the next big movie franchise was “The Six Signs of Light”, which has only one movie left, after trying to follow in the footsteps of “The Chronicles of Narnia”. The story is based on the pentalogy of Susan Cooper’s “The Dark is Rising”, and they haven’t even managed to convince its author.
