Jesse Eisenberg’s new project is, to say the least, curious. The “The Social Network” or “Zombieland” actor has teamed up with the Zellner brothers, David and Nathan, to play the legendary Bigfoot and will do it in style: “My next film is from the Zellner brothers, some brilliant directors I’ve wanted to work with for a long time.”he told Variety, “And I play Bigfoot, fully made up, in a full-body fur suit. I have no jokes, I grunt, but I don’t say jokes and I can’t wait.”.
The interview took place as part of the Sarajevo film festival, where Eisenberg went to present and screen his directorial debut, “When You Finish Saving the World”, a comedy-drama he also wrote and which sees starring Julianne Moore, Finn Wolfhard and Alisha Boe. “Maybe subconsciously I always thought I was going to direct a movie,” says Eisenberg, “but I’ve never allowed myself to think about it explicitly because it seems to me such a great cliché, that of an actor who has not had a job for a few months and decides and tells everyone that he will direct something, but then he never does. I was so afraid of becoming one that I never admitted the idea that I would find the interesting direction. ” According to the current director, having always worked on the other side, what scared him the most was having to give notes and notes to the cast: “I was given such negative indications as an actor that I was unnecessarily afraid of doing the same on my own. It took me a week to learn to be clear that I could talk to Julianne Moore and she won’t think I’m an idiot.”
The film is about a woman, Evelyn, and her son Ziggy, an unassuming teenager who performs folk-rock songs for a group of fans she has online. This is not to the liking of her mother, who sees it as too superficial, as she runs a shelter for survivors of domestic abuse.
The Zellner brothers
The Zellner brothers are, in addition to directors, prolific actors. We saw David Zellner in “The best defense is an attack” or “In a lawless place” and Nathan Zellner appeared in “Kumiko, the treasure hunter”, “Beeswax” or “The Cassidy Kids”.
As directors, together they are responsible for “Damsel” with Robert Pattinson and the preparation of a new film called “Alpha Gang” about an alien invasion with Jon Hamm, Sofia Boutella, Nicholas Hoult and Mackenzie Davis. Only David has more titles: “Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter”, “Kid-Thing”, “Frontier”, “Plastic Utopia”, “Goliath” and a segment on “Slacker 2011”.
