The bad news continues for the Spanish box office: the collection of the weekend from 12 to 14 August, that of the bridge of the Assumption of the Virgin, drops by 10% compared to the previous week, billing € 3,465,950 among the 20 most viewed films, 400,000 less than in the period from 5 to 7 August. Also, it is the worst data since the first weekend of June, June 3 to 5, just before the premiere of “Jurassic World: Dominion”. The number of spectators also dropped from 571,023 to 517,243, or around 50,000 fewer people. Of course, the one that has remained stable compared to last week is the top 2, as it is once again driven by ‘Bullet Train’ and ‘Father there is no more than one 3’.
In its second week of release, David Leitch’s new movie is down 38% and adds 866 thousand euros for a total that slightly exceeds 3.4 million. Released by Sony, the film can be seen on 728 screens in 409 cinemas, where it grossed an average of € 2,117. Despite being crowning the leaderboard, the figures are low for a title of this magnitude and for the time of year, but the lack of competition in strong previews has allowed him to remain the leader. In the case of Santiago Segura, the third episode of his family saga (also distributed by Sony) has been on the bill for 5 weeks and has raised € 473,000, 25% less than the previous week. The film has already surpassed € 12 million globally and attracted 77,300 people to theaters and is, of course, the highest-grossing Spanish film of the year.

In third place is a premiere: ‘I’m going to have a good time’, the musical comedy with the songs of the G Men, so 3 out of 3 for Sony this week. The film was released in 388 theaters, where it earned an average of € 876 per screen and a total of € 390,000 thanks to 60,500 admissions. Follows “Minions: The Origin of Gru”, which drops 19% and adds € 322,318 to a global that was close to € 18.8 million. Universal’s animated film has been at the box office for 7 weeks and can still be seen on 445 screens in 388 theaters, missing only one person in the audience to reach 50,000 admissions. Closes the top 5 ‘DC League of Superpets’ with a drop of 26% and a collection of 304,440 euros, mediocre figures for a children’s title based on DC superheroes. Its cumulative total remains below 3 million.
The list continues with two firsts, that of ‘The Beast’ by Idris Elba, which comes in sixth place with very low figures: only 247,350 euros and an average of 806 euros per screen and cinema; and another Spanish title: ‘Por los pelos’, which does not even reach 200 thousand euros (187,841 euros). Warner Bros decided to launch it on 335 screens in 335 cinemas where its average was 561 euros, almost the worst average in the top 10.

To close the list are 3 big hits, none of which are the first of their saga: ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’. The fourth installment of God of Thunder has been in theaters for 6 weeks, fell by 32% and adds 179 thousand euros to its global 10.8 million, so it looks like he will be leaving this list soon. Of all, Tom Cruise’s is the one with the least marked decline, just 3%, and this has been scheduled for twelve weeks. His accumulated total is close to € 10 million thanks to the € 107,772 he added this weekend. Finally, dinosaurs that already dominate the world drop by another 19%, despite maintaining an average per screen of € 520 and adding another € 104,552 to the € 17.5 million it reached in 10 weeks in theaters.
A miracle, good or bad, is needed
With an anticipated premiere on Thursday 18th, the big hope for this August weekend is Jordan Peele’s new title, ‘NOP!’ a new take on horror and science fiction cinema starring its fetish actor, Daniel Kaluuya, along with Keke Palmer and Steven Yeun.
The rest of the previews that reach Spanish cinemas are comedies: the Norwegian ‘Everyone hates Johan’ by Hallvar Witzø, the French ‘My God, what have you done to us?’ and the Colombian “Un compadre en Nueva York”. Let’s hope Peele’s mysterious alien movie is the miracle of good the box office needs.
