Screenwriter Damon Lindelof (The leftovers, guardians) is a fan of the movie that Marvel Studios pulls out, but he also thinks maybe they should slow it down a bit. During a recent interview with Vulture’s Inside podcast explained that if Marvel had made fewer films, each one they would have released would be “a little more special,” but understood why they don’t:
“It will always be difficult because once you have someone’s attention, you want to keep it. And so the idea of letting it go and not knowing if you’ll ever get it back is like it’s antithetical to the way we’re wired.
“From a slightly more cynical point of view, this is a bargain. It is an industry. And if you make a couple of great Marvel movies, the instinct is, “We have to make more Marvel movies and we have to expand it.” And I have this kind of inner feeling like, ‘Wow, I wish they were earning less because it would make everyone a little bit more special. But I look at them all. … People don’t want things to end. I do.”
I fully understand what he is saying and I quite agree with him. But, at this point, it just won’t happen. Marvel Studios won’t slow things down anytime soon. They are accelerating, they have a lot of stories they want to tell that lead to these great event movies, and most importantly, they are making billions of dollars from them! They are not going to give up on this. Lindelof went on to say:
“I don’t blame them for the right to continue. I’ve made prequels, sequels, and reboots, so I can’t be a hypocrite and say, “God, find an original idea.” Meanwhile, I’m shooting two “Star Trek” and “Prometheus” movies. “
Some of the upcoming projects include Black Panther: Wakanda forever, She-Hulk: lawyer, Special Guardians of the Galaxy holiday, Ant-Man and the Vespa: Quantumania, Lama, Secret invasion, Loki Season 2, Fantastic Four, Avengers: the Kang dynastyAnd Avengers: Secret Wars.
