A24 released the trailer today. Marcel shell with shoesThe highly anticipated stop-motion movie starring Jenny Slate will be released on June 24.
The comedy is based on the viral short films of the same name by Dean Fleischer-Camp and Slate, which have had more than 50 million views on YouTube since their 2010 debut. She leads a colorful life with her grandmother Connie (Isabella Rossellini) and their pet, Alan. Once part of the larger conch community, they now live alone as the sole survivors of a mysterious tragedy. But when a documentary filmmaker discovers the Airbnb mess, the short film he posted online brings Marcel millions of avid fans, as well as unprecedented dangers and new hope to find his long-lost family.
Rosa Salazar, Thomas Mann and Leslie Stall also star in the film, which had its world premiere in Telluride last fall and was just showing at SXSW. Camp pulled from a script he co-wrote with Slate and Nick Pale, based on a story he co-wrote with Slate, Pale, and Elizabeth Holm. Camp, Slate and Holm co-produced by Andrew Goldman, Caroline Kaplan, Paul Meze and Terry Leonard, produced by Philip Engelhorn, William Bayerley, Nyon McEvoy, George Rush and Michael Reisler. Kirsten Lepor worked as the animation director at Cinereach Production, produced by Chiodo Bros. Together with Productions, Stephen Chiodo was the animation director and Edward Chiodo was the animation producer.
