The “Outlander” prequel is officially in development at Starz and announces the title

Although Variety already revealed last February that the Starz network was developing a prequel series to its hit “Outlander”, Deadline has now revealed that they are officially in production, their title and a short synopsis. The new series will be called ‘Blood of My Blood’, which in Spanish literally translates as ‘Blood of my blood’, and will tell us the love story of Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, the parents of Jamie Fraser, the character of Sam Heughan.

As we already knew, Matthew B. Roberts will handle the script and executive production, as he did with the main series, which is currently preparing its seventh season with no known release date. Joining Roberts will be Maril Davis and Ronald D. Moore in the production and the author of the novels that inspired this franchise, Diana Gabaldon, as a consultant. “We are thrilled to discover more layers of this vibrant world to bring our audience back to where it all began.”said Kathryn Busby, president of programming at Starz, “Matthew, Maril and Ronald will continue to bring their excellent vision and creativity to this new iteration and we can’t wait to see what happens next.” As Gabaldon revealed in February 2022, she was already working on a prequel novel about Jamie’s parents.

the seventh season

What awaits Claire, Jamie and company now? But it seems that after a season shortened by the pandemic, the seventh will once again have at least sixteen episodes. Although rumors have been circulating for some time that the seventh could be the last season of ‘Outlander’, Gabaldon denied it on Twitter saying it shouldn’t be heard. “To the dumb clickbaits, this is my advice. Of course season 7 could be the last, and it could NOT be the last. Nobody knows.”

These new chapters will be based on the novel ‘Echoes of the Past’, the seventh of the literary saga, and will not see the light of day until the end of the year or early 2022. According to the synopsis of the book, the plot is set in the United States , London, Canada and Scotland with the revolt of the American colonies in the background. Claire and Jamie’s daughter Brianna and her husband have settled in a centuries-old Scottish home where they find letters revealing their parents’ love and time travel. The couple will then decide that their future depends on the discovery of Claire’s fate. Caitríona Balfe, Heughan, Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin are back in the cast with Izzy Meikle-Smal and Joey Phillips as new additions.
