It is one of the strongest and most fruitful professional relationships in Hollywood. Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese have worked together on six films so far. The latest, “Killers of the Flower Moon”, is yet to hit theaters as well the two have already planned their next collaboration as an actor and director.

As revealed exclusively by The Hollywood Reporter, the project was acquired by Apple Original Films, which acquired the rights to the still unpublished novel, which will be released in April 2023. Scorsese will direct the film with DiCaprio as the protagonist. Both will also serve as producers, Scorsese through Sikelia Productions and DiCaprio with his partner Jennifer Davisson and his company Appian Way Productions. Imperative Entertainment’s Dan Friedkin and Bradley Thomas will also appear in the production, as well as Eden Productions’ Richard Plepler.
Set in the 18th century, ‘The Wager’ begins with the arrival of a boat with 30 men on the brink of death off the coast of Brazil, after surviving a shipwreck. The crew was part of a British ship that crashed into a Patagonian island while chasing a Spanish ship. Having survived the impossible, the castaways are welcomed as heroes. However, six months later, another ship in even worse condition appears off the coast of Chile with three sailors accusing them of actually mutiny. This gives rise to a battle of cross-accusations, which leads the Ministry of the Navy to hold a trial to find out the truth about what happened.
DiCaprio and Scorsese’s professional relationship began in 2002 with “Gangs of New York”. Since then, viewers have enjoyed their work together on “The Aviator”, “The Departed”, “Shutter Island” and “The Wolf of Wall Street”. For sure,’The Wager ‘can be seen on Apple TV +, although being Scorsese we can count on Tom Cook’s giant who will take him to theaters to compete for the Oscars.

Before embarking on “The Wager”, Scorsese and DiCaprio will premiere “Killers of the Flower Moon”, also for Apple, another costume drama, this time set in Oklahoma in the 1920s, which revolves around the crimes of Osage.
