The release of the director Martin Scorsesethe next western drama The killers of the flower moon was rejected. The film was originally supposed to be released in theaters and on Apple TV + in November 2022, now it will be released in 2023.
Leonardo Dicaprio stars in the film as Ernest Burkhart, and is joined by Lily Gladstone as Mollie Burkhart, a member of the Osage tribe married to Ernest, grandson of a powerful local breeder, played by Roberto De Niro. Brendan Fraser (The Mummy) also stars in the film.
The film is based on David grandmotherand the story is set in 1920s Oklahoma. It describes the serial murder of members of the oil-rich Osage Nation, a series of brutal crimes that became known as the Reign of Terror. Here is a description of the story:
In the late nineteenth century, the Osage Indians were pushed to a supposed expanse of worthless land in northeastern Oklahoma. But their territory turned out to be on top of one of the largest oil fields in the United States; to obtain that oil, prospectors were required to pay leases and royalties to the tribe. By the 1920s, Osage Nation members had become the richest people per capita in the world. And then the Osage began to die under mysterious circumstances.
Producer Eric Roth he previously opened up about the project by saying that it is “nothing we have ever seen” and that it will be “one for ages”. He explained: “I know that Marty is trying to make a film that is probably the last western that would be made this way, yet, with this incredible social document underneath, the violence and the environment. I think it’s going to be like nothing we’ve ever seen, in a way. And so this is, for me, one for the ages “.
I was looking forward to seeing this movie. I have no doubt that it will be another masterpiece from the legendary director.
