Hoffman will play the son of Connecticut trash tycoon Jimmy Galante (Harbour) and an associate of the Genovese crime family. In 2004, Galante bought the city’s minor league hockey team and appointed his young son, AJ. The two were bonded for a love of play when they were young, and the rebel dad didn’t want to let go of that bond. The boy did well. The team became known for their rough and wobbly playstyle, but also developed a large fan base as they started winning more games. The team’s success and popularity came to an abrupt end when Galante was arrested for 72 crimes. He was accused of defrauding the United Hockey League and exceeding the strict salary cap by placing their players and wives in non-show jobs through a waste management company.
Rife will direct from a screenplay by Adam Perlman (Billions) and will be directed by Rife with ongoing revisions. Tom McNulty of MC2 Entertainment and Andrew Morrison of Yellow Bear Films are producing. Micah Green, Dan Steinman and Dan Friedkin will executive produce 30West with Jon Wertheim and Adam R. with Perlman.
AJ Galante, on which the story is based, will serve as executive producer.
