As I watched the wonder of Top Gun: Maverick play big, the movie Venom: Let there be carnage it didn’t even exist in my mind. But yes, there was a Poison sequels and presidents of Sony film groups Sanford Panitch And Josh Greenstein credit to that film for the epic success of Top Gun: Maverick.
The Tom Cruisegrossed over $ 1.2 billion worldwide at the box office, making it the biggest film of 2022 to date. When it comes to all the press that Top Gun: Maverick was getting, Panitch explained to Vulture:
“There is so much press on Top Gun right now. It’s like, ‘The movie world is back!’ In a weird way, I’d say Top Gun benefits from taking care of us. Venom is the beginning of that story that allows Top Gun to do the kind of business it did. These things don’t happen today. until tomorrow. It is a seeding.
“We made a big bet putting Venom in theaters. Then we doubled down with Ghostbusters. Then our biggest bet was when all the other tentpoles had escaped, we tripled with Spider-Man, our biggest and most important piece of IP.” .
I understand what they say, but I don’t really agree with it. Movies have been around for a long time! Even if the pandemic hadn’t hit, Top Gun: Maverick however it would have been a huge success! Do you know why? Because it’s a great movie and audiences enjoy watching great movies like this in theaters! It had nothing to do with Poison 2 released in theaters before it. It had everything to do with good storytelling and great jet fighter action sequences!
If there is a film that paved the way for the success of Top Gun: Maverickis the original Top Gun movie! It’s so silly to me that some people feel they have to take credit for the success of something they had absolutely no connection with.
The only thing this kind of speech does is make it mediocre Poison 2 film again on the front page. What do you think?
