HBO documentary announces Princess Diana Პrincesa It will premiere on premium cable on August 13 at 8pm ET/PT, just days before the 25th anniversary of the royal family’s tragic death on August 31st. The film is directed by Oscar nominee Ed Perkins (Sheep) will also be available to stream on HBO Max.
The relationship between Diana and Charles, the Prince and Princess of Wales, has been the subject of tabloids for nearly two decades, making almost daily headlines on the 24-hour news cycle. HBO’s candid and striking new take on the life of an ex relies solely on contemporary archive videos and audio recordings to take viewers back to key events in Diana’s life, including her fairytale-like public dating and wedding, and the birth of her two children. She and Charles’ drastic divorce and Diana’s untimely death on August 31, 1997 at the age of 36. The film develops as if it were in the present, allowing the viewer to admire greatly, while at the same time intensely observing Diana’s every move and constantly judging her character. It also serves as a reflection of the society of the time, revealing society’s own anxieties, fears, aspirations and desires.
Პrincesa The world premiere took place at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival. The film was produced by Lightbox, Academy Award winner Simon Chin (man on the wire, looking for candy man) and Emmy winner Jonathan Chin (LA 92, Bathtub). It was co-produced by Vanessa Towell, by Nancy Abraham and Lisa Heller, and produced by Anna Klein for HBO.
