Some successful cartoons are back with various projects and those who join this wave of nostalgia are ‘The Powerpuff Girls’. The 90s classic is not only developing a live action series, but is also working on an animated reboot about the lives of three girls with great powers.
In the mid-1990s, Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe released “The Powerpuff Girls” with Craig McCracker leading the show. The cartoon became a hit of the decade and continued to air until 2005, managed to have 5 seasons and after several years airing on Cartoon Network, the series has come to an end.
Once the original series officially ended, film and series adaptations were made, but for a couple of years the cartoon was forgotten. It was just in 2021 when Chocolate, Bubble and Acorn They have made noise again with the confirmation of a live action and now it is revealed that the superhero sisters will also have an animated reboot.
According to Variety, Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe and Craig McCraker are working on an animated reboot of “The Powerpuff Girls”‘. At the moment, the project is in a very early stage of development and it has only been confirmed that, in this new series, Bombón, Burbuja and Bellota face old and new friends from Saltadilla.
The live action of “The Powerpuff Girls” is still ongoing
In early 2021 it was revealed that “The Powerpuff Girls” would have a live action series on The CW and their first look was even released with Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron and Yana Perrault as Bombón, Burbuja y Bellota. However, no further progress has been made in this regard.
A couple of months ago it was reported that the pilot of this production had not convinced the directors of The CW and that he was trying to develop it again to have a new opportunity to finally be able to broadcast. Although, so far, the live action adaptation shows no signs of life yet.
The last thing that was revealed about this live action adaptation of “The Powerpuff Girls” was that The CW was giving the project a second chance and was still working on the initial proposal. For now it remains to be seen whether the series will really be consolidated or, conversely, only the animated reboot may be released.
