New MOBA ERROR game: ELDER ORB leaves Early Access and enters free-to-play mode

Defect: Elder Orb is a new online multiplayer Battle Arena game developed by developer Strange Matter Studios and publisher Pocketful of Quarters. The game was in Early Access, but today things change. Now anyone can play free-to-play MOBA on their PC via the Epic Games Store and Steam. The game follows the likes of Paladins in having a third person perspective instead of the more traditional top-down perspective. Personally, I’m not a fan of this, but there are people who I’m sure love it.

At the intersection of colliding universes, meet heroes fighting for the survival of their worlds and experience a familiar multiplayer arena from a fresh, next-generation perspective. Feel every tangible high-octane match from an over-your-shoulder perspective, while retaining the classic tactical strategies and roles the genre is known for. Defeat rival minions and heroes to collect gold for legendary gear. Increase the stats of the characters and spend experience points on one of the four different abilities linked to each hero.

Explore intricate maps filled with jungle trails, gift-giving creatures, and devious hiding places, all of which are useful for changing the flow of each lane’s wave of minions. Keep an eye out for the sky and the ruined rooftops for potential ambushes that take advantage of Fault’s sense of verticality in a fully 3D space.

At launch, Fault will feature 24 dramatically different “heroes” for players to choose from. This includes wizards, angelic robots, behemoths, and more. You will have to work with your teammates to choose a winning combination in order to take home the gold. Ryan Red from Strange Matter Studios shared the impact of early access players:

As a small team of independent developers who have kept this ambitious project going for nearly three years without a strong marketing push, we think we’ve accomplished something truly impressive. Our early access period has given us valuable time with our biggest supporters and implementing their essential feedback. We took everything to heart, their words led to so many positive changes for Fault! We will continue to follow this path and continue to improve the game beyond the launch of v1.0.

Mike Weiksner from Pocketful of Quarters added:

We believe the future of gaming is turning premium games into free games. There are so many games stuck behind paywalls and the launch of Fault: Elder Orb serves as a use case on how to make player-centric experiences through the use of interoperable, multi-game currencies like Quarters.

You will play? Fault now which is free-to-play? Did you play it during Early Access?
