There have been a lot of good times Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness, one of them was teased before the movie even came out and wowed the fans. That was seeing Patrick Stewart returned in the role of Professor X, but this version of the character was from the 90s classics X-Men: the animated series.
It was great to see this classic animated version of the character come to life in the MCU. Seriously, I never thought it would be something I would see happen in the MCU! Unfortunately, things didn’t end too well for him as he met a horrible fate.
In a recent episode of the Phase Zero podcast, Multiverse of madness costume designer Graham Churchyard talked about what happened in Stewart’s transformation into this classic version of Professor X. He said:
“We made her dress. Yes, she was so happy. It was something Kevin [Feige’s] childhood, The animated series, with bright yellow dodgem car type. Do you call them dodgem? Do you call them bumper cars? A kind of fair-looking wheelchair. It was something that was inside The animated series, and it occurred to me, ‘Yes, we’re doing this.’ So the guys from the gear built it for real, and we shot it in London with the double photos. And then when it came to further [photography], they swapped Patrick Stewart, to match the change they had already made. They did the editing, so the work with him was condensed so to speak. But yes, it was a fantastic image, and the green suit, the striped tie and the white shirt. I mean, Kevin was over the moon we were making the green suit. “
It was a real treat to see Xavier’s flying chair come to life! It was great. Churchyard also revealed how Professor X’s costume included a personal connection to Stewart’s real-life story by saying:
“And it was done in London, because there is a tailor shop: we used fine Yorkshire wool. I had worked with Patrick Stewart a few years ago, and then we took a little trip back in time. And in fact, his mother worked in the trade. of wool in Yorkshire in England, so she was really happy to wear something that came from her mother’s sort of legacy of working in that industry.
“I did a Zoom fitting with him at his home in Los Angeles, [and then] sent some of the kids from Marvel studios over there. I was just chatting with him while they were blocking things out. This was all in COVID. We’ve done so many adaptations from Zoom. “
What do you think of Stewart playing the 90s cartoon version of Professor X Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness?
