SPOILER attention!
* This article contains spoilers for the third season finale of “The Boys”
Last Friday, July 8, the third season of “The Boys” ended. The hit Amazon Prime Video series has given a lot to talk about in the past couple of months, among other things because of that wild scene it kicked off the season with in a big way or the expected superhero orgy of ‘Herogasm’. One of the most commented on was the incorporation of Jensen Ackles (“Supernatural”) as Soldier Boy, Captain America parody and main antagonist of the season.
In the season finale, Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) plans to kill Patriot (Antony Starr) once and for all, but things don’t go as planned with Soldier Boy’s appearance. During the battle, Soldier Boy is about to unleash another nuclear explosion, when suddenly Maeve (Dominique McElligott) intervenes and sacrifices herself by throwing herself out of a window with him, causing an explosion in the air. At the end of the episode, we see how Soldier Boy, a survivor, returns to a cryogenic chamber, under the supervision of Grace Mallory (Laila Robins).

As for a possible return of Soldier Boy in future episodes, series creator and showrunner Eric Kripke confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that the door is open “at 100%”. “The TV saying goes ‘Never kill a character unless it is really necessary. Never close a door, open a window’.”Kripke says. “We will have to wait and see, but I can’t imagine the series ending without another Soldier Boy appearance.”.
Filming for the fourth season of “The Boys” begins in August. For now we don’t know if Ackles will be part of it or we will see him later, but the actor would certainly be excited to return: “I said to Krip, ‘Dude, take me out on the show when you want. Tell me when and I’ll run away.’also declared to EW a few months ago.
Black Noir
Who returns for sure next year is another. In the third season of ‘The Boys’ we finally saw Black Noir without a mask. It was in the third episode, during a WWII flashback, that we see the superhero as Soldier Boy. However, Nathan Mitchell, who is the actor who has been under the mask of Black Noir all this time, is not the one who appears in the scene, but Fritzy-Klevans Destine (“Batwoman”, “Superman and Lois”).
As Kripke reveals at the same publication, the change is due to the fact that Mitchell will play a new character in the series from the fourth season. The showrunner and the writers decided that Black Noir would die at the end of the season, and they did. However, the good thing according to Kripke is that “a completely mute character with a black mask can change actor”. Therefore, Mitchell will return in the fourth installment to play “to a different character with the Black Noir dress”. “It is definitely not the last time we see Black Noir as a hero.”To add. “But we will have Nathan in the role of a very interesting and funny character wearing the suit next season”.
