The premiere of the fourth season of “Stranger Things” provoked a multitude of reactions, including that of its main character, Millie Bobby Brown. During the last installment, our young protagonists fight once again against the threats of the parallel universe they live with. This time, they are attacked by a new villain named Vecna. Over the course of the chapters, Vecna connects several times with the mind of Max (Sadie Sink) until finally causing seemingly irreversible wounds. Surprisingly though, Eleven manages to bring Max back to life in the final minutes of the season. In an interview, Millie Bobby Brown criticized the series for not killing more main characters, accusing them of being overly sensitive and joking that “Stranger Things” should be more like “Game of Thrones”.a series that was characterized by the unexpected and shocking death of many of its characters.
In a recent interview, creators Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer responded to criticism of their star. It was on the Happy Sad Confused podcast where the creators said their series can’t look like “Game of Thrones” because in “Stranger Things”, deaths play a huge role in the future of the rest of the seasons. For example, the main reason why Vecna is drawn to Max’s mind is because of the death of her brother Billy during the previous season. However, Matt and Ross Duffer ensure that they do not rule out more shocking and relevant deaths for the final season. This is what they commented: “What did Millie call us? She told us we’re ‘whiners’. We are not “Game of Thrones”. This is Hawkins, not Westeros. The series would stop being “Stranger Things” because you would have to treat it realistically”.
After a three-year hiatus, Hawkins’ heroes are back on Netflix breaking all records. They surpass the latest “Star Wars” series, “Obi-Wan Kenobi”, and have become the most watched production this year through a streaming platform.
Painful deaths throughout the series
Despite the lack of deaths closest to the lead group that Bobby Brown points out, we’ve had other losses that are quite painful to audiences throughout the series. In addition to the aforementioned death of Billy, we find other characters who have had a tragic end, such as Bob, Joyce’s boyfriend, who tragically died at the hands of a Demogorgon; and Barb, Nancy’s best friend.
Despite this, Brown wants the series to take more risks around its main characters. We’ll see if the desires of the young actress are finally reflected a last season that promises to be particularly intense and exciting.
