James Cameron he spent over a decade developing his Avatar sequel saga and has already directed Avatar 2 And Avatar 3. When it comes to Avatar 4 and Avatar 5, it looks like he’ll be passing directing duties to another director so he can focus on other movie ideas he’d like to make.
In a recent interview with Empire, Cameron said: “The Avatar the films themselves consume everything. I also have other things I’m developing that are exciting. I think eventually over time – I don’t know if it’s after three or four – I’ll want to pass the baton to a director that I trust takes over, so I can go and do other things that I’m also interested in. Or maybe not. I do not know.”
Cameron lived in the world of Avatar for over a decade! It makes sense that at some point he wants to get out of it to do something new and different.
Cameron had previously delivered his Alita: Angel of battle project to the director Roberto Rodriguez, and that movie was really cool! Rodriguez is definitely a director Cameron trusts, but he may also have other directors he’d like to work with.
Cameron continues to talk about his excitement about the Avatar sequel saga saying, “Everything I have to say about family, sustainability, climate, natural world, issues that are important to me in real life and my cinematic life, I can say on this canvas. I got more excited as I moved on. The fourth film is a cap. It’s a son of a bitch. I really hope to make it. But it depends on market forces. Three is in the can, so it’s coming out regardless. I really hope we can do four and five because it’s a great story in the end.
Avatar 4 And 5 it all depends on the success of the next two films. I hope these films are good and I hope Cameron gets to share his full vision with the audience.
Avatar: The way of water is set more than a decade after the events of the first film. “He begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri and their children), the problems that follow them, the lengths they go to protect each other, the battles they fight to stay alive and the tragedies they face.
The film will be released in theaters on December 14, 2022.
