We have recently learned a lot about Obi-Wan Kenobi film project developed by the screenwriter Stuart Beati before Lucasfilm canceled it and decided to rework its script into a mediocre series. It looks like the movie would have been a lot better than the series and it’s a shame that Lucasfilm and the creative team behind it Obi-Wan Kenobi butchered the idea.
We previously learned a few details about the story involving Obi-Wan and Reva. Beattie revealed some more information showing that her Obi-Wan trilogy would have been much better than the series.
In a recent interview with The Direct, he revealed that Commander Cody would be in the film and that he would have a side affair with young Luke Skywalker. Asked about other characters that he would incorporate into his story, he said:
“Cody was the greatest. I love the idea that Obi-Wan has a friend on Tatooine. Like a secret friend. So, like the first time he goes to town, you see, Cody, and he’s following him around the streets and attacks. he takes him to an alley with a knife to his throat and says, ‘You’re dead.’ And then you realize, ‘Oh, no … Cody is making a point.’ Like, ‘Come on. You need to be more careful.’ “
Regarding Cody’s arc, Beattie said:
“And you realize, ‘Oh, Cody has now transformed from someone who was trying to kill him the last time we saw them to someone who is now dedicating his life to protect him.’ Because by now the biochip has been removed from his head and now he realizes: “Oh, my God, what I did is wrong.” And he has been guided by guilt, as much as Obi-Wan is guided by sense. So you’ve got these two types of old warriors fighting like this old married couple, complaining, ‘God, it was so much better when we had an army behind us,’ you know? ‘”
As in the series, Obi-Wan would have left Tatooine in the film, but … in the film Cody would have been tasked with watching over young Luke Skywalker. He said:
“And my idea was that when Obi-Wan had to leave Tatooine, he left Cody in charge of Luke. And that gave us a funny little B story to keep cutting on. He’s a really funny character and a guy who runs. . against time, of course, because he’s aging twice as fast. He’s trying to atone for the worst thing he’s ever done in his life. So tragic in a way, but just plain funny … The way they fought over the my things, he was just, you know, put a smile on your face and, you know, fighting all the time. “
The writer also shared that Obi-Wan and Cody would get rid of the bodies in the sarlacc pit, and Obi-Wan also had visions of Luke Skywalker addressing the dark side, which included a de-aged. Marco Hamill.
The more I learn about what this Obi-Wan movie could have been, the more frustrated I am by the series and the creative team for ditching all these great ideas! What a missed opportunity.
