One of the many things that the public loved Top Gun: Maverick they were the crazy and awesome action scenes of air jet fighters. All of those scenes were shot on camera and didn’t involve CGI, which is pretty amazing.
Well, director Joseph Kosinski will do the same thing with the Formula One racing movie he is shooting with Brad Pitt. It’s going to take the same cinematic technology and apply it to Formula 1 racing cars, and it’s going to be awesome! Pitt will star in the film with a seven-time world champion racing driver Lewis Hamilton to produce.
In a recent interview with The Wrap, Kosinski shared: “Definitely seeing people react to a film authentically captured on camera like Top Gun it makes us all feel good that our approach works and is appreciated by the public ”.
He went on to talk about applying it to his next film, saying, “It’s kind of funny for me to see people so in love with real photography. Young people hardly saw much of it. They are so used to CGI [computer-generated images] being a great movie tool that when you actually shoot something, it feels groundbreaking. This is exactly the approach for Formula One … to shoot real races and real cars and capture him. It will be a huge challenge, but exciting for me. “
He’s right! So many movies are using CGI these days and it’s super rare to see anything like this with what they’ve done Top Gun: Maverick. In fact, we may never again see anything like this involving fighter jets. But I can’t wait to see how they fare with Formula 1 racing!
In the film, Pitt plays a pilot who comes out of retirement to mentor a promising rookie. Ehren Kruger is writing the script while Top Gun‘S Jerry Bruckheimer is producing with Plan B. The film project is in development for Apple, which plans to release it in theaters.
