A24 filled a new featurette behind the scenes for The Smashing machineThe next MMA sports drama by the director Benny Safdie. It offers an interesting vision of the making of the film and includes movies behind the scenes and also includes interviews with the cast and crew.
The film follows the legendary fighter Mma Mark Kerr, played by Dwayne Johnsonduring the peak of his UFC career in the early 2000s.
History digs in Kerr struggles with addiction, success and its complicated personal life. The protagonist alongside Johnson is Emily Blunt Like Kerr Dawn’s girlfriend, who sails in the chaos of his world while trying to keep their relationship together.
The cast also presents Lyndsey Gavin, Oleksandr Usyk, Ryan Bader, Satoshi Ishiiwith Bas Ruttt AND Stephen Quadros.

It seems that Safdie has made a solid film with his cinematographic style and storytelling. He worked closely with Kerr himself on the script.
In addition, as Johnson will offer the best performance of his career in this film. It is physically transformed for the role and the first reactions indicate both Johnson and Blunt as an emotional nucleus of the film.
The film was previewed at the 2025 Venice Film Festival, where Safdie won the best director, and is now heading to Tiff before hitting cinemas on October 3, 2025.
