When it comes to comics movies, few actors can say they have played both in the Marvel and DC playing fields, but but Frank Grillo He did just that.
After his race in the MCU in the role of Brock Rumlow, better known as Crossbones, the actor is now carving out a new path in the DCU as Rick Flag Sr. in Creatures Commandos, Superman and the next Pacifier Season 2.
With almost all the apparitions in the DCU in less than a year that has had Marvel for five years, Grillo has a unique perspective on the differences between the two studies.
During a recent appearance the morning after Pod, Grillo opened on how Marvel and DC approach their productions and the contrast is rather surprising.
Reflecting on his time to work with Anthony and Joe RussoHe explained: “The Russian brothers are, in my eyes, more comfortable in directing on scripts that are not completely complete”, before adding that this method is not “uncommon” in the world of cinema.
When it comes to James GunnHowever, Grillo said that the process could not be more different. “Everything has been done. All scripts are made in advance. You really don’t need to confuse.”
Grillo stressed another big difference between the two electrical plants. “The Russos have a lot of people who have their hand in the biscuits jar,” he said, comparing it with the configuration of Gunn to Studios DC, where the director manages things with Peter Safran.
“It is a completely different way of making films. It is not that James has a committee he has to answer. They are he and Peter Safran, while the Russian brothers have a lot of people.”
Of course, if the approach based on Gunn alone is a strength or weakness is under discussion. It is known that Gunn surrounds himself with collaborators and family actors he trusted, as can be seen with the return of Peacemaker and his cast.
However, Grillo seems to be a fan of the style of the boss DC. “He really has a clear concept. His theory is that there is no film without a script. The script will be as tight as possible before starting to shoot. When we look back 50 years, we will watch this time and we go, ‘Well, these guys have created this kind.’ They are all fantastic.
DCU has already been launched with solid voices such as Superman, Creatures CommandosAND Pacifier Season 2, everyone earns positive responses. But 2026 will be the real trial ground, as projects like Lanterne, SupergirlAND Clay Take the screens without the direct creative touch of Gunn.
It remains to be seen that his simplified approach to narration is strong throughout the wider universe, but Grillo’s intuition clarifies him, Marvel and DC could be in the same game, but they play it in very different ways.
