Trailer for the Korean thriller The ugly from the train director to Busan

A couple of trailers have been released for the next mysterious Korean thriller The uglyAnd it seems that it will be an emotionally intense and chilling round.

Premiering next month at the Toronto International Film Festival of 2025, this marks the latest project by the acclaimed director Yeon Sang-HoThe director behind Train for Busan, PeninsulaAND Hellbound. With The uglyYeon moves from the large scale show to something more intimate and disturbing.

Adapted by his graphic novel of 2018, the film explores the memory, the moral ambiguity and the painful truths hidden under the surface of a fractured family story.

With Park Jeong-min AND Kwon Hae-HyoThe story follows IM Dong-Hwan, a man who convinces his blind father, im Young-gyu, to participate in a documentary on his life as an engraver of seal as a master.

But things require a dark turning point when the remains of the mother of Dong-Hwan, long designed, are discovered after four decades. While the mystery takes place, even the buried family secrets, revealing painful truths that have been hidden for years.

“Dong-Hwan (Park Jeong-Min), having inherited his blind craft father Yeong-Gyu Seal Incigliving Studio, convinces his father to act in a documentary on his life as a master of the profession who has passed the limits of his disability.

The ugly It is presented as a special presentation at TIFF 2025 and was produced by Wow Point. Yeon continues to push such borders and this new film seems a deeply personal and psychological journey.
