Director RHYS Thomas I was not exactly wonder of his Bingo card. Speaking at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, the Saturday Night Live The alum shared that it was “surprised like anyone” when he received the request for what he would become Hawk eye. His reaction?
“Hey, look, we are all whores, right?” He joked. “You have the opportunity for a greater budget and it’s amazed.”
But it was not only the scale that crossed it, it was the character. “What affected me in that show is that fans were not interested in Hawkeye because he has no superpowers. He is a real boy,” said Thomas. “It was really the story of a normal boy with a bad sense of self -esteem.”
Thomas mentioned the Matt hamlet Comic Run as a tonal inspiration and noticed how the project did not feel like Marvel “at the beginning. Without an initial pressure because of the pandemic, he had the opportunity to offer ideas before officially jumping.
“Of course, being amazed, I got on board and completely thrown everything before and we started writing the show again.”
And while James Gunn Once declared: “You never go into production without a script to DC Studios,” says Marvel was a different beast. Working on Hawkeye was “fluid”, allowing unexpected changes and spontaneous evolution, especially once Jeremy Renner has been involved.
