James Gunn says the DCU will be more similar to Game of Thrones and Star Wars than at the MCU

James Gunn He is launching the script on what fans can expect from the DC universe, and is clearly clear that it is not only DC’s response to the Marvel cinema universe. While the comparisons are inevitable, DC Studios co-head has recently shared that its approach is rooted in something much more expansive and unpredictable.

During a conversation with Rainn Wilson for the interview magazine, Gunn said:

“Talk about George RR Martin, and he is truly one of the guys I love and look. I am a big fan of his and people and people say:” Oh, the DCU is doing what is MCU. “But I think it’s really much more for me how the world of Game of Thrones is or how Star Wars is.”

He continued to explain: “Because we are building a universe and then we chose small pieces and telling individual stories from that universe”.

That direction for the construction of the world is already anterior and central in the initial artems of projects of the DCU. Instead of starting with the family member or the mainstream, Gunn is at the top of the animated series Commandos creatureA profound formation that includes characters such as Dr. phosphorus and Frankenstein. This is quickly followed by Superman AND Pacifier Season 2, each of which offers drastically different tones.

The imminent universe of Gunn includes a horror vision of body horror of ClayAn infused horror Swamp Thinga gritty noir approaches Lanternand the cosmic vibrations of Supergirl. Each project seems its gender experiment while it is still rooted in a wider shared world.

Yes, MCU also had a variety and Gunn knows it better than most, having directed the Guardians of the galaxy trilogy. But even his work Marvel could not completely avoid tie general plots such as Thanos and the Infinity saga. As Gunn recalled, once he had to build the tradition of infinite stones in a few minutes on the screen.

This is not the case that he is playing him at the DC. Gunn said before the post-Credit scenes in the DCU do not exist just to set the next film. His latest comments strengthen that vision. It is not a single linear plot, it is an expansive and constantly evolving universe in which any corner could obtain the spotlight.

DCU does not aim to reflect the MCU. According to Gunn, he is sculpting his own path and that path seems more similar game of Thrones AND Star Wars of anything else.
