Greg Nicotero discussed his new Jason Voorhees design for the 13th restart of Friday 13

Jason Voorhees is returning to the next restart of Jason Universe of Friday 13th franchise, legendary artist of horror effects Greg Nicotero He gave the iconic monster a completely new renovation and in a recent chat with CB during the San Diego Comic-Con, Nicotero opened how Jason was revisited and how this new version is a complete resurrection.

“They said,” We want to reinvent it, “Nicotero shared.” And so we did this new mask, then we made a new Jason. “

If there is someone equipped for the work, it is Nicotero. As a co-founder of Knb Efx Group, he had a hand in sculpture almost any imaginable horror icon, HalloweenMichael Myers, A nightmare in Elm StreetFreddy Krueger, The Texas Chainsaw massacreLeatherface, CryGhostface. But Jason is a particularly special case, especially for Nicotera, who previously had worked on Jason Goes to hell: the last Friday In 1993.

This time, Nicotero’s opinion on Jason finds a balance between two eras of the character. He explained:

“I’m like” it’s not a zombie, so it won’t be rotten. “So we landed somewhere between part 2 and part 3.”

This is in reference to the days when Jason was still wearing a lot of canvas in mind before finding that iconic hockey mask, by the way, this new one presents 13 holes which is a deliberate and symbolic choice of design.

The redesigned Jason was revealed for the first time in May by Horror, Inc., and it is a bit the imposing and handled strength Machete that you would expect, just updated for a new generation of fans. Nicotero said:

“It was very funny. It is fun for me to revisit those. We made the nightmare in Elm Street, we made Halloween, we made three Scream films, we made Leatherface. We are the only company that really touched all those great franchises, except Hellraiser.”

This new Jason will make its official debut at Crystal Lake, the imminent prequel series on Friday which is produced by A24 and streaming on Peacock. The series is played by Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees and Callum Vinson as a young Jason, laying the foundations for the legend that will grow in the relentless murderer we know.

Rob BarsamianPresident of Horror, Inc., underlined the importance of obtaining the right balance:

“We are committed to maintaining Jason’s original essence, while continuing to move towards the future with a defined aspect that brings Jason to his next chapter. We gave Greg our new 13 -hole mask and we worked together on this full -body look that embodies the classic Jason. It is a strong, extraordinary and terrifying slasher with a machete, his weapon of choice.”

Marc Toberoff On Friday 13 llc, who is supervising the universe of Jason together with the creator of Franchising Victor Miller and the Barsamian team of Horror Inc., has hinted that this is only the beginning, including a long -awaited return to the big screen.

“It is incredibly exciting to report Jason Voorhees in the life of fans in such a bold and fresh way. We are thrilled to work alongside Horror, Inc. in the next chapter of the franchise and jason’s inheritance, and we share their passion. Together, we are ensuring that this return offers everything that has to do everything longtime fans – while opening the door for a new generation.”

This is a complete relaunch of the entire Friday 13th mythology, led by the most trustworthy names of horror. With Nicotero behind the mask, Crystal Lake on the horizon and a cinematographic return to the works, the slasher legend is cutting the spotlight in style.

And from the sound of it … this Jason is not lacking.
