James Gunn He has a long road in front of him while building the DC universe and has had a strong involvement with Commandos creaturethat sets things in motion e Superman AND Pacifier Season 2, which is just around the corner, but we will start seeing that universe widening, with other narrators who enter the spotlight.
Which includes Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrowdirected by Cruel AND Me, Tonya director Craig Gillespie. Gunn recently opened in a new DC Showcase interview on the state of the film, the atmosphere of his characters and how Jason MomoaLobo puts everything together.
“Craig is such a joy to work with. I was really enthusiastic about going to work with him, and it was only a dream in terms of collaboration … Fighting for his land … When you have an idea you believe, you really fight for this.”
As for the casting of Milly AlcockThis happened before Gillespie went aboard the project. According to Gunn, he has always been his best choice for Kara Zor-El.
“I wanted it to be this little follet character, but very aptitude. [Milly] He was the first person I raised. “
Gillespie also pushed for a more terrifying vision of Krem of the Yellow Hills, the villain of Woman of tomorrow comic book. Gunn made fun of that Krem, played by Matthias SchoenaertsIt will be a real extraordinary.
“Friend, wait to see how frightening he is in the film,” said Gunn. He called Schoenaerts “Scary”, “Crepy” and “Cool” in the role.
But the real curved ball is Lobo. Momoa is exchanging his Trident Aquaman with a space bike, playing the hunter of wild and intergalactic sizes. And according to Gunn, it is essential to do Supergirl work as a movie.
“The comic is a lot of small stories. We needed to create a story through, a three -act story, so Lobo helps us to do it.”
Elsewhere in the interview, one of the hosts shared his favorite DC characters with Gunn, who include Kyle Rayner, John Costantino and Mister Miracle. The latter is getting his animated series, and while Gunn is a fan of Hellblazer, he is less passionate than Kyle.
“I like all three characters. The second two, I’m a much bigger fan. I was online enough to know that everyone has their favorite green lantern. I’m a guy, right?”
He continued to talk about why Costantino, in particular, resonates with him.
“Costantino, in reality I am a big fan. I read every Hellblazer comic while he was leaving. He is a great character and I like that approach to the magic in which he is not too overwhelming and is too powerful.”
As for Kyle Rayner? Do not hold back your breath. Gunn’s attention seems to be on Hal Jordan, John Stewart and, of course, Guy Gardner.
