James Gunn closes the hopes for the dark film of the Justice League in Guillermo del Toro

For years, fans have imagined what Guillermo del Toro-Direct Justice League Dark The film would seem. A dream Gothic team of Constantine, Jason Blood, Zatanna, Swamp and Deadman wrapped the visual flair of the director’s signature.

With James Gunn Now leading the ship to the DC Studios, some hoped that the project could finally take shape. Unfortunately, according to Gunn himself, it is not happening.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn has faced the long -term possibility of relaunching the Delian Justice League project of Del Toro. Gunn said:

“By the way, Guillermo never told me. I hear all these things about”, Guillermo would like to do the Justice League Dark. Well, Guillermo never told me. “Let Steven Spielberg makes his Blackhawks movie he wants to do!” Steven Spielberg, whom I love above anyone else, never told me.

“So these things are made in an disproportionate way. Years ago, I said I wanted to make a Thunderbolts movie. I was in a convention somewhere and someone asked me:” What did I want to do that she wasn’t Guardians of the Galaxy? “I said Thunderbolts.

“And for years and years, it is how,” James Gunn should be allowed to make his Thunderbolts film. “I have a million things that I thought I wanted to do at certain times.”

Del Toro spent a piece of time to develop a Justice League Dark Films years ago and his affection for DC’s monsters and magical misfit is not a secret. But that project was officially released in 2018 and since then nothing solid has emerged, not from Del Toro, not from JJ Abrams’Bad Robot, who was also attached to a version of the story at some point.

It’s a shame. Del Toro’s passion for the material and its story with comic books make it natural for the darker and stranger corners of the DC universe and considering its recent series of films acclaimed by critics as Nightmare alley, Pinocchioand the next FrankensteinIt is not as if he lacks the weight.

But he did not contacted Gunn about it, so Del Toro was clearly passed by DC. However, all hope may not be lost. Gunn has been clear that DC Studios will continue to explore Elseworlds Standalone projects, films that operate outside the shared continuity, such as Joker or Batman.

Del Toro once offered some information on his not done Justice League Dark Project, saying:

“I took a little opening of the Moore Costantino. And I took the dynamics between [Abby Arcane] And Swamp Thing, and I took the type of revealing moments in which Deadman enters a body, as he would experience the conscience of this being.

“And one of my favorites of all time is the Demon Etrigan. I love that character. You know, so try putting them together … Zatan is really, for me, another character who is really powerful and interesting effort. Trying to mix him with Klarion the boy of the witches … I was a boy DC.”

If Del Toro ever expresses a renewed interest, perhaps there is a journey forward under that banner. But for now, Justice League Dark remains a story of ghosts in the halls of Superheroi cinema not made.
