The co-director of Predator: Assassin Assassin They are mixing the Yautja pot and fans are ready for what they are trying to deliver. Spoiler first if you haven’t seen the movie yet.
Dan Trachtenberg (Prey) AND Josh Wadg He recently sat with the Rant screen and dropped some interesting suggestions on where the Predator Franchising could be directed afterwards, including a surprise connection Prey and a thin nod to the alien legacy against the predator.
If you captured the animated anthology film, you know it’s not just another story driven by hunters. Killer killer It takes us through three distinct periods of time that include the Viking era, feudal Japan and the Second World War, each focused on a warrior overlooking an relentless Yautja.
But then the script turns upside down: these warriors have actually been torn from their time and cryogenically frozen, just to be revived in the distant future to fight in an arena for the twisted entertainment of King Grendel, a predator sovereign with a talent for brutality and pipeline.
The biggest surprise? Prey Naru protagonist, played by Amber MidthunderIt is shown in one of those stasis pods. It is a moment that reformulates the hope of the 2022 film that ends in something much more dark. Trachtenberg clarified one thing:
“I mean, I will clearly say that it is not a journey through time. I am not because of time. This is the benefit of the Pod Cryo: they are torn from their period of time and then put in stasis and then unleashed when they decided for the delicious entertainment of that evening.”
What does this mean for Naru and others? The door is wide open. He could return to a future story, perhaps forced to fight alongside or against other characters from all over the Predator myth.
But the alien question looms, especially with fans who underline that King Grendel’s cloak seems to be sewn together by Xenomorph Tails. When asked if this was a nod to a future Alien Vs. Predator, Wadg replied:
“I would say that fans should interpret that the way they want to interpret it. I want to say, we wanted to design that predator with a royal elegance mixed with brutality. And that’s what he spoke to us. And honestly we were having fun imagining where they could come from.
He added:
“But we really wanted to leave fans to imagine where each of those skeletons and pieces of various creatures that he has clearly conquered and from where they may have come.”
Predator: Badlands it is on the horizon, with Elle Fanning Ready to play an Android Weyland-Yutani, which is a huge connective tissue between the alien worlds and predators. There is clearly something that produces behind the scenes of 20th century studies and Disney.
While we wait to see what it is, one thing is certain: Predator: Assassin Assassin I just opened a new arena of possibilities.
The film is now streaming on Hulu and Disney+.
