Adapted by Stephen KingNovella, this is not a horror film, at least, not in the way we expect from Flanagan. This is a story about death, yes, but also on life and how those two are inseparably linked together. For me, he struck like a quiet, soft and heavy clink, with a beauty I hoped.
The film is structured on the contrary, which takes place in three acts that bring us traveling from Chuck’s death to his childhood. It is a courageous narrative choice, but it works. Do not leave this film trying to put together the wires of the plot or twists, you go out reflecting on the moments of your life that suddenly feel more significant.
This is the effect that this film has had on me. It was put under the skin and I found myself climbing several times, not because of grandiose and dramatic curves, but due to small and delicate truths that played so painfully and magnificently real.
The power of this story is rooted in the way it feels universal. Chuck Krantz is not a world -renowned figure or a mythical savior. He is a person who is quietly significant in ways that ripple through others, who realize it or not.
The film opens with a surreal sense of purpose, the world is revealing itself, time is collapsing and strange phenomena begin to mark the end of things. But instead of spiral in apocalyptic chaos, the film focuses on memory, meaning and human connection.
He reminded me, strongly, of how I felt out of the movies like Stand by MeWith a deep emotional pain wrapped in joy and happiness. It is not easy to describe that feeling, but Chuck’s life captured perfectly.
The performances throughout the line of this cast of ensemble are excellent, although many roles are relatively small. Tom Hiddleston could be the headliner, but he really has only a great sequence.
His Mark Hamill Who offers one of the most powerful performances in the film. His character may have the maximum time on the screen and there is an emotional weight in his performance. Each member of the cast, from Karen Gillan TO Chiwetel EjioFor to young people Jacob Tremblaycontributes with something significant. Nobody feels wasted. Each person brings a note to the symphony of Chuck’s life and play it all with the heart.

There is a vulnerability in cinema that seems new to him. While many of his past works spread to fear, this tilts into acceptance. I’m not sure this film will land for everyone, and that’s okay. Some may find its tonant structure or excessively sentimental tone. But for those who are willing to meet him where he is, to embrace his introspection and disappoint their guard, is one of the most rewarding cinematographic experiences of the year.
It was personal for me. He touched the things I spent in my life and somehow, instead of leaving me heavy, he raised me. I came out of the theater feeling as if I had been embraced by the universe itself.

It is a film about moments, quiet ones, strange, painful ones and how echoes. He does not answer the big questions of life, but respects them enough to ask. He gave me the opportunity to stop, reflect and be just grateful for the trip.
