Concept artist Ji hye lee Variously shared projects of non -used alternative costumes for Florence Pugh’S Yelena Belova in Thunderbolts*And they cover a wide range of styles.
Some drawings stick close to the aesthetics introduced in Black widowBy strengthening its spy roots with tactical equipment and elegant silhouettes. Others go in a totally different direction, offering a more relaxed and utilitarian appearance, as a character captured somewhere between secret agent and Survivor Scrappy.
Marvel was obviously experiencing how to evolve Yelena’s appearance while entering several roles of leadership and on the front line in the MCU. After being out as favorite by fans in Black widow AND Hawk eyehas taken on a co-lead position in Thunderbolts* Next to Bucky Barnes, and will play a key part in the next Avengers: Doomsday.
Pugh was sincere on the emotional journey that arrived with the filming of Thunderbolts*. Speaking with Glamor, he shared:
“During the realization of this film, I had one of the most wonderful and bizarre realizations in which the lesson that this film was trying to teach us was something I was learning from while we were shooting the film. And it was really wonderful to take inspiration from the art we were creating.”
He continued to say:
“And allowing me, I suppose, the kindness that Yelena allows herself to accept that she needs help and accept that she needs to allow others to take care of her, which is something that I find very, very difficult. I like to be the caregiver and I like to be the person who is there for everyone.”
And finally:
“And I think that during that film it was a really nice wave of really going,” okay, “and it is right to accept that you are not [feeling] Fantastic and it is to accept that you feel rather weak and it is good to ask for help and it is right that people help you. I had a beautiful mirror realization of the work I was creating was the exact thing I needed to teach myself. “
I loved the way Marvel and Pugh managed Yelena in Thunderbolts* and I am very excited to see how his future appears in the MCU.
