Rare rare encounters of the alien mask of the third type at auction – and it is disturbing and fresh parts

If you’ve ever dreamed of having a piece of extraterrestrial cinema history, now it’s your opportunity, don’t expect it to call home.

Propstore has launched a new auction with an incredible range of cinematographic memorabilia and a particular element is to attract attention: an original alien mask from Steven Spielberg’S Close meetings of the third type. One of the strange “gray” sweet aliens who descended to the devil’s tower in the unforgettable final act of the film.

This rare piece is part of the sale of articles by Propstore of the vast collection of Cimeli of Planet Hollywood. The auction kicks off on May 21 and lasts until 11 June and the catalog is full of cinematographic treasures which also includes Gremlins puppets, Ghostbusters Miniatures and ears spock from Star Trek. But the close alien encounters, complete with “functional eye mechanisms”, is extraordinary.

According to the list of Propstore, the production team has created multiple alien masks during the filming, including prototypes, static versions for large shots and mechanical masks capable of limited movements. This particular piece is one of the mechanical versions used for close -ups and has a little engineering under the hood.

It comes from the Roy Arbogast collection, the artist of special mechanical effects appointed to the long -date Oscar and collaborator of Spielberg. The list explains:

“It presents a latex leather in foam lacty briefs dressed on a fiberglass and gray-brown painting underground outside. The interior is inserted with large melted resin eyes painted with blue irides and black pupils. The eyes are designed to move from one side to the other via cables installed along the interior.”

Arbogast’s filmography is full of classic films including Escape from New York, Thing, They liveAND Return of the Jedi.

Over the years, an “comprehensive restoration” has been made to keep it ready for the display, even if the list clarifies that the piece is fragile and not designed to wear. So maybe don’t go to frighten the neighbors in your way.

The initial offer is $ 2,500.
