Tilda Swinton and director David Lowerly join for the death of the thriller Whounnit in the hands

Tilda Swinton and director David Lowerry They are joining forces for a new film that sounds disturbing, brain and totally not classifiable.

The film is entitled Death in his handsand is based on Ottessa Moshfegh’s 2020 novel. It is the latest See-Saw Films project, the same dress behind The power of the dog AND The king’s speechAnd he tells a truly unique story by Whounnit.

Swinton interprets Vesta Gul, “a woman who strives to take control of her story” and comes across a chilling note handwritten in the woods near her house: “His name was Magda. Nobody will ever know who killed her. I was not me. Here is her dead body.”

“Except that there is no body. No blood. Not bitten from the death of her husband and armed only with a camera, her dog Charlie and her vivid imagination, Vesta becomes obsessed with identity and fate of Magda.

“While his inner world begins to eclipse reality, the mystery of Magda threatens the taking of Vesta on his own life – until, in a fascinating operating climax, we realize that Magda’s death could finally allow to live.”

David Lowerry, better known for gender films like The green knight, A story of ghostsAND The old man and the gunHe is writing and directing. He said in a declaration:

“I am a devoted fan of Ottessa Moshfegh and the opportunity to translate Death in his hands On the big screen, in a certain sense, a subterfuge was for having spent a lot of time obsessed with his prose. But now the stratagem has expired!

“The script generated by the novel will soon become a film, and suddenly they are more than ever aware that adapting this particular work represents a subtle challenge (anyone who has read the novel will understand why)!

“But I am ready for this, and I am encouraged to have such wonderful collaborators by my side: the entire team of See-Seaw, Jeanie and, of course, the incredible Tilda Swinton, who I know illuminates the story of Ottessa in ways that I could only dream.”

Swinton, as usual, seems the perfect choice. He is an actor who thrives on complexity and knows how to walk on that subtle line between the founded human emotion and disturbing surrealism.

Producers IIN Canning AND Emile Sherman Shared: “David Lowerry is a teacher of affected stories and atmospheric, and there is none of a better to bring to the disturbing and brilliant novel of Ottessa Moshfegh on the screen. We can’t wait for the public to walk in the world that creates and is swept away by the history of Vesta, played by the incomparable, magnetic and infectiously buying Tilda Swinton.”

The production is supported by See-Sew films with also Jeanie Igo who produces e Simon Gillis AND Ann Phillips acting as executive producers.

Swinton will subsequently appear in front Colin Farrell A Edward Berger’s The ballad of a small player. In the meantime, Lowerry continues its series of projects that resist simple gender labels, offering instead something much strangest, richer and more obsessed.
