AS Andor Wrapped his second season, fans could have expected another big connection to Rogue One with a surprise aspect of Felicity Jones Like Jyn Erso. But this has never happened, and according to Showrunner Tony GilroyIt has never really been on the table.
When he was asked by Entertainment Weekly if he has ever taken into consideration the idea of bringing Jyn for a cameo, Gilroy gave a “No.” Firm and thoughtful added:
“I was asked several times. I tried to draw some versions along what we would have done. Episode 12 is truly unique. It is its energy and we are not trying to advertise anything in 12. We have always known that it would not have been a low energy, but a different type of episode.”
The ending, which flows directly in the events of Rogue OneHe nods to the film with Galen Erso who is mentioned and several family faces of rebellion make appearances. But Gilroy was not interested in cramming in the cameo only for the fan service.
He even discussed whether to bring back Danny Mays Like Tivik, Cassian rebel contact kills at the beginning of Rogue One. It didn’t happen either. And for a very specific reason:
“In the end, I realized that if people were not absolutely there, they shouldn’t. And it would have been lame to Jyn as a cameo. It would have been really disrespectful in a certain sense. I would prefer to honor Rogue and keep it straight.”
It is a rare moment of moderation in a franchise known to connect every point, but Andor He has always played with different rules.
With Andor now concluded, Star Wars has returned to the big screen next May with The Mandalorian and the Gogu. It remains to be seen if that rests more on the show or history. I’m sure it will be a good mix of both.
