We wrote a couple of times on the surprising death of the character Antonia Dreykov, aka Taskmaster, played by the actress Olga Kurylenko In Marvel’s Thunderbolts* A couple of weeks ago.
It was one of those chosen in a film that you don’t see coming, since that character was one of the main members of the team, but director Jake Schreier Previously he told the New York Times that the decision was made when they realized how much the little bloodshed in the first drafts of the film script had happened.
Schreier explained:
“It was difficult because he is a character who matters for many people and we don’t want to take it slightly. That idea came after the strike when it seemed that the film was at that point a bit without blood.
“It is not classified R, but if we were trying to tell a story that had a real tension on people who killed people to live, you had to describe it in a certain sense.
“Obviously, we could have introduced a new character and then get rid of them, but then he would not have the resonance or potentially the shock of doing it in Taskmaster.”
When he was asked how Olga Kurylenko reacted to the news of his character’s early death, Schreier replied:
“It’s not easy. It’s like in sport: players want to play. Olga is a great actress and obviously it is a difficult conversation to have, but she was an absolute professional about it and willing to present himself, and I am very grateful to it.”
It was sad to see his character go. I loved her Black widowAnd he was interested in seeing her again, so it was a pity that his Screent was interrupted. But he served the story and who knows, perhaps we will see it before the multiverse is closed forever.
