Starting from June 1, Netflix is increasing the suspense with a well -kept collection of Alfred Hitchcock Films, and while the streamer continues to push his agenda at home, is also going great with a six -week theatrical celebration in New York City entitled Attack! The influencer of original cinema.
Let’s start with the streaming range. US subscribers will have access to a lot of iconic Hitchcock titles including Vertigo, Rear window, Frenzy, The man who knew too much, Family plotAND Birds.
If you are already in the streak, Psycho It is currently available for streaming. But Netflix does not stop with the classics, they are also launching films inspired by Hitchcock’s chilling legacy, such as Jordan Peele’S Us, Zach Cregger’S Barbaricand the Anthony Hopkins-Led biopic Hitchcockdirected by Sacha Gervasi.
If you are in New York, however, the real treatment could be at the Paris Theater of Netflix. From 16 May to 29 June, the company is co-president a huge retrospective with the Circolo di Cinematographic Critics in New York.
The series will project more than 50 films, of which 36 directed by Hitchcock himself, with 35 of them shown in glorious 35 mm. The salient points include Rear window, Vertigo, North by NorthwestAs well as works influenced by Hitchcock as François Truffaut’s The bride wore black and Henri-Georges Clouzot’s Diabolique.
The Paris Theater is a historic single screen cinema opened in 1948 and was saved by Netflix in 2019 after it almost became a Walgreens. Now acts by Netflix Hub for exclusive commitments, previews and retrospectives.
As the company says, Paris “is the home of exclusive theatrical commitments, previews, special events, retrospectives and cinematographic apparitions”.
Of course, this move comes with a little irony. Speaking at the top of Time100 just last week, Netflix Sarandos’s co-cenza faced the company’s position in cinemas. He said that the “community experience” of the cinema-theater business is “an End-Modeld idea”, claiming that for most Americans, “you cannot walk towards a multiplex and see a movie”.
But he clarified the theatrical strategy of the company by adding: “We did not save it to save the theater business. We saved it to save the theatrical experience”.
So, while Netflix is not here to relaunch the box office, they are reminding us that looking at a Hitchcock thriller in a dark theater with a crowd is an experience that is worth preserving.
