James Gunn He is not pulling from any comic for his Superman Movies. Instead, he is building something fresh, something wild, emotional and full of monsters.
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn has opened his opinion Superman And what is really guiding this new film version of Lex Luthor.
During Warner Bros. ‘Presentation of Cinemacon projected about 5 minutes of and while I liked what I saw, others with the participants called him boring and barely a mockery. Regardless of this, Gunn had a lot to share behind the scenes of Las Vegas.
When asked if the film is based on a particular comic plot, Gunn said:
“I would say it is an original story, but the tone and appearance of the film, in many ways, is inspired by Grant Morrison and Frank Quelty All-Star Superman.
“I read that comic, and really has this feeling of the large comic books of the silver era of the old school and science fiction. We have robots and monsters children and giant kaiju and all that stuff.”
So, wait some wonderfully grumpy things. But under the science fiction show, Gunn is anchoring the story in something more rooted: the embarrassing and disordered beginnings of love. He explained:
“But this is also based on these incredibly real relationships with a couple who started dating a few months ago, and now they are really learning the details of each other. What’s good in them? What is not good in them? And how are their ideals?”
Superman’s optimism will be tested by the Lois Lane’s free -frills approach to life.
“We have Lois Lane, who is a pragmatic, and Superman is an idealist and how does it work together? My wife and I are like that, in reality,” Gunn shared, giving a nod to his partner, Pacifier star Jennifer Holland.
Lex Luthor of Gunn will not be a mystery. It is in advance on what the villain wants: “[Lex wants to] Defeat and destroy Superman. “
That grudge has come for years to feel like if he were the smartest boy in the room … until the alien was presented with the square jaw. Gunn explained:
“Here is this guy who is this [incredible] The brilliant scientist who has worked throughout his life to become one of the richest and most powerful men in the world, and does everything to be praised.
“I mean, he wants to be the greatest, and suddenly this idiot comes by wearing a cloak with a jaw of lantern and an arrogant smile, and takes away all the oxygen from the room, outside the earth’s room, and creates a burning hatred in the boy.”
As for Lex’s wealth, apparently, it comes from a battery invention that changes the game. Gunn says:
“I think Lex invented one of the best forms of battery all over the world on which almost everything is in progress. And we never talk about it in the film, but I think it is there that most of his money has done.”
For Gunn, Superman It is not just saving the world. It is a question of finding good in people, especially at a time when it seems that goodness is fired or forgotten.
“What I have tried to bring to it is something beautiful that concerns the goodness of humans, kindness in people, because it is what Superman represents for me.
“It represents almost something old -fashioned, yet I think it is exactly what we need at this moment: kindness, goodness, the innate moral values with which we grew up, that in some way the Internet is drowned and considered weak.”
I like what Gunn is saying here and I hope he can make a great superman movie because that’s what we all want! It seems that it is on the right road.
Based on what Gunn says? He is aiming for something that flies.
