Jon Bernhal He has returned as Frank Castle, aka Punisher, and is not wasting time to impact. Made his debut in Daredevil: born again During episode 4, and even if his time on the screen was short, it was intense.
Bernhal is opening up on the scene full of tension with Charlie CoxS Matt Murdock is what is next for Punisher.
In the episode entitled “Sic Semper Systema”, Murdock keeps track of the castle after finding a bullet envelope marked by that banner of family skull on the scene of the murder of Hector Ayala.
What follows is exactly the type of switched on that you would expect between these two: Frank Castle who pushes Murdock to admit that after all, he wanted to kill Bullseye for the murder of Foggy and that he should have.
Bernhal broke the scene with Entertainment Weekly, saying:
“There is a bit of Frank in all of us; I sincerely believe it. Like that line,” we are all a bad day from being me. “I think Frank is seeing himself in Matt, and Matt knows that he is seeing Frank himself, and there is a joy.
“But also Frank does not really have time for gray. He doesn’t have time to understand things or obsessed things. Frank really believes that he goes back and forth and the twist and the turning point that Matt is antithetical by his truth, and he knows.
“For Frank, there is nothing like having that little wisdom on Matt and torturing him because he knows he’s right.”
Bernhal Castle has always been a force of nature, but his ability to put himself under Murdock’s skin is as brutal as his fighting skills. It is not clear when Frank will show up again Born againBut even if his role this season is limited, fans will not have to wait for a long time for more punishment action.
Bernhal is mainly intended for his Punisher Special Disney+ presentation that is also co-scaming together with the director Reinaldo Marcus Green (We can this city). According to Bernhal, this was a project for which he fought:
“I crossed the process. I entered, I launched, I gave a scheme before I even put the pen on the page, and I felt as if I didn’t want to do not deliver it. They had read some of my writings, they asked me to come and take a tone, so I did. And they kept me responsible for every step along the way.
“I really want to earn this and I really want it to be good. The story we have exhibited is, I think, very special. It is the visceral, psychologically complex, ruthless version, without Frank’s boat, where he will make the audience turn his back.
“And nothing is easy and all violence has a cost and we will see that cost. I am grateful that lets me go to the places where I really want to go.”
If there is one thing that Bernhal has clarified, it is that his version of Frank Castle does not concern the glorification of violence. It is a question of showing its emotional weight, its consequences and what it does to a person.
Bernhal is not revealing much on the long -term role of Castle in the MCU, although it is widely believed that it will also be involved in Daredevil: born again Season 2. What appreciates, however, is the creative freedom that Marvel is giving him to model Frank’s journey.
“What I really appreciate with these guys is that they have their vision. They have an idea of where they want it to go and the world in which they want that it exists. But they are really giving me an agency on how we bring it there and they assure they are honest, authentic and truthful.”
As a fan of Bernhal’s Punisher, it is nice to hear that Marvel is letting the actor play an important role in modeling this character and his history.
