Retro trailer for the 1978 Laserblast science fiction action movie

This week’s retro trailer is for the 1978 low budget science fiction film Laserblastwho was directed by Michael Rae.

The film follows a teenager in difficulty named Billy Duncan (Kim Milford), which stumbles on an alien laser cannon in the desert. After discovering the powerful weapon, Billy becomes more and more violent and unbridled while the device begins to physically and mentally transform it into a monstrous being.

Meanwhile, two alien stop-motion alien performers, who originally left the weapon after killing his previous owner, return to Earth to recover it. While Billy loses control, leaving a path of destruction in his wake, the authorities and aliens converge for a final clash.

The film is not infamous for its super cheap special effects, wooden acting and inconsistent narrative, but has gained a cult over the years, largely due to its involuntary campaign and the aesthetic of nostalgic science fiction of the late 1970s.

The film was heavily derided in an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000consolidating his reputation of a Bad-It’s-onth’s cult classic.
