Love Island stars Molly Smith and Tom Clare have revealed that last-minute wedding planning for their upcoming ceremony in Mallorca has become stressful. The couple legally tied the knot at Stockport Town Hall in Manchester last month, and they are set to exchange vows again in a grand ceremony in Spain in two weeks.
Speaking to The Daily Mail while attending Hitched.co.uk's Summer Social Mixer, the newlyweds gave the lowdown on their upcoming wedding. Hitched.co.uk serves as a one-stop shop for UK wedding suppliers, connecting couples with thousands of trusted vendors, venues, and planning tools.
Molly explained that invoices being sent and text messages from guests caused her to panic as the date approaches. "It's got to the stressful part, just because we're weeks out and only because it's invoices being sent and all the last bits that you start to panic about and then you start getting people asking you questions, like texting you," she said. "So then it starts to get a little bit stressful in that sense. So I have had a little wobble."
Tom added that the desire for a perfect event and questions from guests created pressure. "We just want it all to be perfect, but like you said, there's just like little bits, people asking silly questions," Tom said. "It's not too bad, but just because we want it to go so well and we've put time and effort into it. I think we're just about there. You've had a few little meltdowns."
Molly noted that Tom copes with stress by cleaning around their house. "Tom's so chilled. Normally you're super, super chilled, but Tom stress cleans, So I know when you're stressed because you'll go upstairs and start hoovering or something like that!" she said.
Raucous legal wedding celebration
The couple described their UK legal ceremony as a really special and intimate occasion. They had previously kept details of the Manchester event under wraps from their followers.
After tying the knot, the newlyweds headed to The Ivy for a celebratory dinner in a private room with close friends and family. Although the meal started calmly, the gathering quickly turned raucous once the doors closed.
"It started like so calm and classic. And then by the end of it, Casey was in a heap on the floor. We were on the tables dancing," Molly said, referring to best man Casey O'Gorman. "Everyone just went to the Ivy and we just had a private room."
Tom recalled the shift in mood during the evening. "As soon as the door shut, everyone just seemed to go mental!" he said.
Wedding dress selection process
Molly also shared how she selected her outfits for both weddings. For the legal ceremony, she had no initial dress in mind or specific inspiration.
She looked briefly on Pinterest and decided she wanted a small pillar box hat. She eventually found a simple dress that differed from her main wedding gown.
"And then I just found that dress and was like, 'oh, simple, it's cute, it's different from the wedding dress,'" Molly said. "And I thought, I'll just go for that. But I wasn't too fussed to be honest, because I knew it was just going to be super intimate. So yeah, but I did end up really loving the whole little look."
For the Mallorcan ceremony, Molly expected a lengthy search. Her mother felt stressed beforehand, remembering that Molly was a nightmare while shopping for a prom dress years ago.
Molly recalled that people often told her she would end up buying the first dress she tried on, though she did not believe them. When they arrived at the bridal shop, the assistant told her to pick out options, leaving Molly unsure of where to start.
After sending a photo of one dress to a friend on Instagram, she selected several dresses to try on. The first dress she put on turned out to be the gown she chose.
The moment brought her mother to tears, left her friend Sophie teary, and made Molly well up. Molly initially fought the feeling, suspecting she was emotional simply because it was the first wedding dress her mother had seen her in.
"My mum cried, I welled up a bit, Sophie was a bit teary, but I fought it because I thought, 'it can't be, it's because it's the first dress I've ever been in, the first one my Mum's seen me in,'" Molly said. She then visited another shop to try on more dresses, but returned to purchase the first gown. "I was like, 'No, it's got to be that one.'"
Relationship history and communication
Molly and Tom first met on the first series of Love Island: All Stars in 2024. Tom later proposed during a trip to Dubai in September.
While many relationships formed on Love Island end after the show, Molly and Tom's relationship has gone the distance. They credited good communication as the secret to making their relationship work outside the villa.
"We just have the same interests, we have the same goals, we just... I don't know, we just click," Tom said. "We have the same banter, we make each other laugh."
Honeymoon plans in Spain
With the countdown to their main wedding underway, the couple are making plans for after the ceremony. They intend to stay in Mallorca for a few extra days after marrying before going on a minimoon together.
"We are doing a few extra days in Mallorca just so that we're not flying home straight away. We kind of want to just soak it in a little bit, don't we?" Molly said. "And then we are attempting a mini moon, but we haven't booked anything yet, so I don't know when we're going to go."
