Ron Perlman It has always been the definitive Hellboy For many fans, and recently clarified that he would return to the role only in a condition … Guillermo del Toro must be the one he directs.
In an interview with that Hashtag Show, Perlman was asked if he would have been open to return to Hellboy boots. His answer was simple: “I would do it for Guillermo”.
He continued to underline his loyalty to Del Toro, who led the two Hellboy films in which he starred, saying: “This is his franchise as far as I’m concerned, and I am his boyfriend”.
Perlman even revealed that he refused the possibility of resuming the role for another director, sharing: “I had the opportunity to play him for other people and I have passed”. For Perlman, Hellboy without Del Toro is not Hellboy at all.
Hellboy’s films are based on Mike MignolaDark Horse Comic, it was a success, obtaining $ 99.8 million all over the world. This led to the 2008 sequel, Hellboy II: The Golden Armywhich was equally welcomed.
Despite years of discussion and demand for fans, a third episode has never materialized. Instead, the franchise was restarted twice with either of the two attempts that caught the magic and greatness of Del Toro’s vision.
2019 Hellboy With David Harbor he floppat, gaining only $ 55 million around the world and the last attempt, 2024 Hellboy: The Crooked Man With Jack Kesy, he barely made a ticking, collecting only $ 2 million globally.
Given the way both restarts have fought, I doubt that we will see another attempt to make a Helboy movie for a long time. Personally, I think that if someone has tried to adapt Hellboy again it should be a tough animated series with Perlman who expressed the character.
