Rob LiefeldDeadpool co-creator, has officially interrupted the ties with Marvel and is not holding on why. In a recent episode of his podcast Robservations, Liefeld shared that his experience with Marvel Studios, in particular below Kevin FeigeLeadership has left him without respect and set aside.
Liefeld describes the breaking point as a series of layoffs culminating in the Deadpool and Wolverine Premiere, where he and his family were not invited to Afterparty. But his frustrations started much earlier.
Liefeld’s problems with Marvel began at the beginning of 2023 when “the company made the controversial decision to modify the credits on Wolverine, assigning the status of co-creator to publisher Roy Thomas.
“The character was created decades before Liefeld worked in the comics, but he is near Christine ValadaWolverine Len Wein’s widow of the co-creator, who was angry for the decision. “
So, in June 2024, Liefeld sent an e -mail to Marvel asking for a special credit on Deadpool and Wolverine. He did not request money, only recognition and access to events.
In that e -mail, he expressed his frustration for the way Marvel deals with the creators: “Marvel’s treatment towards creators has never been their strength.
“Without the worlds, the characters and concepts that we create – and in this specific case, the world of Deadpool – there are no films to shoot. No success to distribute …
“I’m not the easy button on Staples. They are the human imagination behind everything … the creators of comic books cannot continue to be relegated as second thoughts. This is easy to deal with. Unless I turn to face it, it will never manifest itself. “
Liefeld has never received an answer.
Fast forward at Deadpool and Wolverine Premiere, in which things took a more personal turn. “He also felt snubbed by the Disney Otone, including the Marvel Studios Kevin Feige boss, who says he was close to him on the red carpet but did not recognize him.
“And there was another apparent mild: Liefeld said he posed for professional photos with creatives on Deadpool and Wolverine Team, but later it was said by her publicist that those photos have been deleted.
“He believes he has been taken only as a courtesy and not destined to be used, although other photos, with Liefeld alone and with his family, appeared as part of the Getty Press Portal of Disney from the event.”
On X, he wrote: “Not as much as a single handshake. Without classes. “And on Robservactions, he said in no uncertain terms:” Kevin Feige does not treat comics creators well. This is my personal experience. “
Liefeld recognized that Marvel flew to London for a visit to the set during the production of the film, but said that “he started to feel unwelcome” and chose not to develop further.
When he was asked if Feige could improve his relationship with the comic creators, he replied simply: “I think [Feige] Can you improve your relationship with comic creators? YES.”
The latest Marvel Comics project by Liefeld, Deadpool Team-Up #5He falls on February 12, marking the end of his work with the company. Reflecting on the experience, he admitted:
“You can’t always share your blows. Sometimes you have to share your missing. This was a lack. It was important for me to be a podcast, so that people could hear my voice. You didn’t hear anyone who was angry. Sometimes, it was difficult to hide how sad I was. “
With Liefeld that moves away from Marvel, it is ensuring that people know exactly why.
