Brendan Fraser he’s always been a beloved actor among his devoted fans, but he’s definitely made a big comeback in the last couple of years.
Previously known for teen comedies and dramas, then swashbuckling action adventures, Fraser took some time away from the spotlight, only to re-emerge in film. The whalewhich brought the actor the first Golden Globe, the Critics Choice Award and the Oscar win.
Now he’s on an upward trajectory, taking on several new roles that will continue to keep him on the awards circuit.
Fraser talked about his return to the main roles in a video interview with Deadline, where he mentioned his advice Gods and monsters co-star Ian McKellen gave him, which remained over the years and served him well:
“If there’s anything I learned from Ian McKellen, it’s that you have to approach this job as if it were the first time and as if it were the last time. And that’s when the work comes to life.”
He went on to add, “I’m still pinching myself and I don’t think that will ever change. I’m still amazed when people recognize me on the street, because I’ve never been able to get over the feeling of being told, “Fraser, go back to the dish pit.” You have work to do!’ And I hope this never goes away.
Fraser has always seemed like a very nice person, and it seems like this career rise couldn’t have happened to a better guy. It was really good after the 2023 Oscars, when Fraser and Ke Huy Quan they had each won their first prize and celebrated together.
Quan had appeared in the film The Encino Man in 1992 with Fraser, and they were both so humble and grateful for the path their careers took, which led them to that night.
It was the year of the underdog and since then both actors have risen to new heights. It seems like Fraser used McKellen’s sage advice to help him get to where he is.
