Universal Pictures has released a new clip for the director Leigh Whannellthe next horror movie The Wolf Manwhich reinvents the classic story in a very different and unique way.
The clip shows the entire transformation of the werewolf as we see Christopher Abbott transforming into a full-fledged werewolf and is our first real look at the creature’s full design.
I’m surprised the studio didn’t hold back this aspect and keep it for the film as it is one of the most crucial scenes in the film. You don’t have to watch it if you want to save that experience for the big screen.
It’s quite a complex and disturbing scene and perhaps this is an edited version, but you get a clear sense of the transformative experience.
Whannell had previously spoken about the creature’s design, which is very different from the original Wolfman design, saying: “With the look of Wolf Man, I knew I wanted to do something very different. I was really inspired by films like John Carpenter’s The thing and that of David Cronenberg The Moscow.”
Abbott plays Blake in the film, a husband and father from San Francisco, “who inherits his remote childhood home in rural Oregon after his father disappears and is presumed dead.
“With his marriage to his powerful wife, Charlotte (Giulia Garner; Ozark, Inventing Anna), worn out, Blake convinces Charlotte to take a break from the city and visit the property with their young daughter, Ginger (Matlida Firth; Hullraisers, Coma).
“But as the family approaches the farm in the dead of night, they are attacked by an unseen animal and, in a desperate escape, they barricade themselves inside the house as the creature prowls the perimeter.
“As the night progresses, however, Blake begins to act strangely, transforming into something unrecognizable, and Charlotte will be forced to decide whether the terror inside their home is deadlier than the danger outside.”
