Gerardo Butler is going back to the How to train your dragon franchise, but this time he will be suited to play Hiccup’s father, Stoick.
He’s lent his voice to animated films, and while this opportunity gives him a chance to play in the real world of dragons, it’s also a painstaking process to make him sound like his animated counterpart.
After the film’s first trailer was released, Entertainment Tonight asked Butler if he had grown a beard for the film. He replied:
“NO! It was like five pieces of hell. Hours every day and then another hour just to put on the costume.
He went on to talk about making the film in live action, saying:
“I always wondered making those movies, you know, seeing the animated version, ‘What would it be like to have to be that size? To be that character and live?’
“Because for me, one of the greatest things about being an actor is that you get to live in those other worlds, but you don’t when they’re animated. But now they’ve done live action and suddenly you’re in those arenas and that Viking village.”
Honestly, this movie looks like it would be a lot of fun and beautiful with the backdrop of Northern Ireland where it was filmed. Butler exaggerated, joking:
“The film is incredible. I saw it without effects. It’s fantastic. But I can’t wait for the world to see it.”
How to train your dragon will be released on June 13, 2025.
